In-Home Lifestyle Session w/ the Tran Family

Living in West Michigan, it can get difficult to find a location that isn’t as redundant with what you see posted online from locals. For example, some popular spots in Grand Rapids is the GRAM, Provin Trails, and Grand Haven State Beach. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve shot at all of these locations plenty of times but it does get difficult to diversify sessions.

Enter the Tran Family. Living in West Michigan means we’re quite dependent on the weather but when the Tran family reached out to me, they suggested shooting in their home and this is my favorite in-home session to date. They found beautiful stylized pieces and staged their front room as a makeshift bedroom for the photo shoot.

The decor was bright, clean, boho, yet modern. It really elevated the shoot and added much-needed depth to their photos. We used all natural light from a big window to my right. Her family was more comfortable in this setting and it made it easy for me to collect their moments of everyday life.

This is where they make most of their memories. It gives them the opportunity to be unfiltered and completely themselves. The kids were comfortable and relaxed. They had their TikTok & music and it was helpful to entertain the kids with until we were ready to shoot with them.

If you’re due for a family session, I definitely would suggest you consider a cozy in-home session. Plus it gives you an excuse to go shopping to stage an area in your home. ;)
