Love Takes Flight: A Backyard Airplane Hangar Wedding

The bride and groom told me their wedding was very laid back and low-key. They were going for a casual backyard wedding kind of vibe. When I got there, I realized their backyard was essentially a giant field with a small plane tucked away in the corner and I didn’t think anything of it.

I went inside to check in with the bride while she was getting her makeup done to see if the shot list I sent over a few weeks ago was good to go or if it needed some tweaking. She was a super relaxed bride so our list was pretty short and the rest of the shots she wanted were pretty straight forward.

We had some time to hang out before her ceremony started and I don’t remember exactly what we were talking about but she casually let out that her parents’ house is technically a private airplane hangar and that her dad is a pilot and instructor.

I’m sorry, WHAT?!

Couples, this is the type of detail your wedding photographers would love to know about because it is an ABSOLUTE MUST to incorporate into your wedding photos.

We ended up laughing as I was in disbelief and I asked her why she didn’t tell me sooner, she explained it’s something that she grew up with her whole life so she didn’t even think twice about mentioning it.

Don’t worry, though. Her father, the pilot, ended up offering to open up his private hangar for his daughter’s wedding photos. He asked me if I would like to use the planes as a backdrop and I couldn’t say yes quick enough.

The hangar provided a unique backdrop that provided endless opportunities for stunning and memorable photographs.

We got such one-of-a-kind portraits for Paulie + Adam. And, we got amazing candid photos of their guests checking out the planes. I am so honored to have been a part of their wedding. The bride and groom’s love for each other and their unique vision made for an unforgettable day.

Remember friends, please tell your photographers if you have access to planes. We will definitely want to take photos of you with the planes (lol).
